Wasted Love Review
Wasted Love (Brooklyn Series #1) - Danielle Jamie

Copyright Night Owl Reviews

This book was like one big country music video, (when Brooklyn was in Galveston) and I kind of liked it. Well, more than kind of, actually. It had a lot of things going for it, in my opinion. Such as mentioning a '69 Mustang (my favorite car), 30 Seconds to Mars (love me some Jared Leto, just like Brooklyn), and some good old country mud bogging. (That should actually be boggin', but you know...)

I first became a fan of Elizabeth Brown's after reading her Determined trilogy. Her writing style appeals to me and she's capable of making me laugh every now and then. I was only four percent into this book when Natalie's reaction to seeing Ryan caused me to do just that.

As a reader of paranormal romance, I was a little disappointed that I didn't like this book more than I did. I felt that the situations they were in made for a good story and the characters seem to look out for one another. However, I didn't really feel the love connection between the two main characters. I'm sure most of it had to do with the fact that it was book number four in a series I haven't read. I just kept thinking I wasn't getting the whole story.

If you have read the other books in this series, I'm sure this book will be a good read for you!

Under My Skin -J.Kenner
Under My Skin - J. Kenner

ARC provided through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This review may contain spoilers if you have not read the first two books.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't like this book as much as the first two, but that, by no means, makes it a bad read. I just had a couple of problems with Sylvia in this one which I will explain.

I love J. Kenner's writing style. She knows how to convey the emotional situations like the pro that she is. I still found myself racing through this book and fell even more in love with Jackson's character. The scenes he shares with Ronnie, learning how to be a father, were my favorites. It's nice to see a softer side of him after all the rage he has expressed in previous books (and still does).

Now, on to Sylvia. She was way too needy when it came to Jackson. In Say My Name Jackson had started to help Sylvia with her nightmares. I could understand her worrying about losing him, but she goes too far with it. The phrase 'are we cool?' was used too many times, or maybe it was just the fact that she was getting on my nerves with her reactions. I suppose she started show signs of this in On My Knees but I was too caught up to pay attention.

There were a couple of instances in which they walk away from each other. Jackson's reason was warranted, but Sylvia's...not so much. At least not in my opinion. She convinced Jackson that she would do anything for him. She fought for him, said she wanted to be Ronnie's mom, then she just leaves because she had an experience with Ronnie she couldn't handle. Something that almost every parent has faced. Then she wanted to know if she ruined everything by walking away from him....isn't that what usually happens when you leave someone?

Anyway, the assumptions I made as to who really killed Reed and who was sabotaging the island were almost spot-on. Although I was starting to really wonder about the killer, I had a feeling who it was as soon as the second book ended. That person may not have found complete redemption, but hey, it's a start. Also, I have to mention that Ethan is a real jerk. I felt sorry for him in the other books, but not anymore, not after finding out the reason he left London. Grrrr.....

The ending was fitting, though, and exactly what was expected. Any book that can make me type this much about the characters, is worth the read. I would still recommend it, just roll you're eyes at Sylvia a few times, and you'll be OK.

My daughter knows how to make me feel old!

Last night  I was watching the classic Ghostbusters with my 8 year old daughter.

She asked me when the movie was made.

I couldn't remember exactly, so I said '85 or '86...just somewhere in the 80's.

(It was actually made in '84).

She then looks at me and says, "You mean it was made in the 80's and it's in color?

LOL...kids.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband of seven years and three-year-old daughter. The Moment of Letting Go by J.A. Redmerski
The Moment of Letting Go - J.A. Redmerski

*ARC provided through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

We all have something we're afraid of. Some people are brave enough to face their fears, others allow them to take control of their lives. Then, sometimes, you find someone who makes you want overcome them. Which is exactly what happens to Sienna, an event coordinator in Hawaii on business that quickly turns to pleasure when she meets Luke, who challenges everything she thought she wanted out of life.

This is the perfect book to read for that last blast of summer. The wording was so good that it made me feel as if I was right on the beach with them. I read this book while on my breaks at work, which is not unusual for me. However, returning to work late is something I never do. I just did not want to stop reading it.

The Moment of Letting Go is an incredible story of finding peace and, as the title suggests, letting go. J.A. Redmerski sends us a beautiful message about what's really important through this novel.

Sienna discovers there is more to life than being successful. Luke is walking, talking proof of that. Even though Luke doesn't realize it, Sienna helps him just as much as he helps her.

I was really hoping to read about Sienna really facing her fears and going skydiving, it would've rounded out the story better, but the epilogue was one of my favorite parts and an almost perfect ending.

I would recommend this book to any and all fans of New Adult!

The Moment of Letting Go Release Week Blitz (August 11-15)‏ Read on for some Q & A with J.A. Redmerski and a Rafflecopter giveaway!

Excerpt:

Then he gets up and grabs my hands from the tops of my bare knees, pulling me to my feet.

“We’re going swimming,” he says. “And we’ll talk more about this later…like on the day your vacation is over and you’re standing at the gate in the airport about to kiss me goodbye.”

“Wow, you really think highly of yourself, don’t you?” I can’t keep the laughter from my voice.

“Damn straight!” he says and pulls me along beside him. “Before these two weeks are over, I can guarantee you three things.” He holds up three fingers as we continue onward toward the water. “One”—he holds up one finger—“you’ll never want to go back to San Diego once Hawaii is done with you.” He holds up two fingers. “Two—that photography love of yours will start to take the place of everything else in your life. And three”—he wiggles three fingers and we stop on the beach where the water can pool around our feet—“you’ll kiss me at least once before you go home.”

I blush hard and it feels like my eyes are bugging out of my head. “I might peck you on the cheek or something, but—”

“No,” he says, smiling and quite serious, “it’ll be a full-on, tongue-dancing kind of kiss.”
I smack him playfully on the arm—something is fluttering around inside my belly.

“Geez!”

Luke grabs my hand and pulls me out to the water with him, where we swim and hang out on the cliffs until late in the afternoon. People come and go throughout the hours, sometimes leaving us with Alicia, Braedon, and a few of their close friends to have the area to ourselves for a while before more people show up in intervals.

“Backflip!” someone says just before Luke jumps into the water for probably the twentieth time.

And every time he does it, it ties my stomach up in knots. But there’s something about him that I can’t quite figure out when I watch him leap off the edge of that cliff; it’s not overconfidence or showing off or recklessness, but something deeper, more profound.

Maybe it’s a sense of freedom, or a natural high that consumes him while he’s in the air, as if he had been born with a pair of wings that only he can see. But the more time I spend with him, the more intrigued I become. Sure, he’s gorgeous and funny and polite and all the kinds of things—so far—that would make my mom love him to death.

But what intrigues and excites me more is how he kind of makes me want to jump off that stupid cliff regardless of how scared I am of it.

J.A. Redmerski Q&A

What scene from THE MOMENT OF LETTING GO was the most fun to write?

I loved writing the scene with the bug, where Sienna falls down the steps into the mud.

What are three things you can’t write without?

Grande Iced Vanilla Latte from Starbucks; writing laptop that never connects to the internet and has stickers all over it; and my favorite lounge chair.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

My long-awaited throw-everything-in-the-Jeep-and-go drive to the Grand Canyon – though it’s beginning to look like I’ll be putting that off until the fall, or next summer.

Which do you love more, beginning to write a book or finishing one? Please explain why.

A few years ago my answer would’ve been that I loved starting a new book because I loved the journey I went through to get to the end. But I think over time I’ve grown to enjoy the finish line more because it means I get to start on something new - I have so many stories to tell! But I guess that’s the same thing as saying I love the beginning?

THE MOMENT OF LETTING GO by J.A. Redmerski (August 11, 2015; Forever Trade Paperback)

You can follow the rules or you can follow your heart...

Sienna Murphy never does anything without a plan. And so far her plans have been working. Right after college, she got a prestigious job and gained the stability she'd always craved-until work takes her to the sun-drenched shores of Oahu and places her in the path of sexy surfer Luke Everett. For the first time, she lets her heart take control. Drawn to his carefree charm, she makes a spontaneous and very un-Sienna-like decision to drop everything and stay in Hawaii for two more weeks.

Luke lives fast and wild. When he meets Sienna, he's convinced that some no-strings-attached fun is just what she needs. As their nights quickly turn from playful to passionate, Luke can't deny the deep connection he feels. But there's a reason Luke doesn't do long-term. He can't promise Sienna forever, when the enormity of his past has shown him just how fragile the future can be . . .

Smoke on the Water Release Day
Smoke on the Water (Sisters of the Craft) - Lori Handeland

Smoke on the Water is the last installment of the Sisters of the Craft series. This book finally brings all three sisters together, which is why it's my favorite of the trilogy. I like how the author backs up and give us a little bit of each sister's story before combining them, even though it got better once they were all connected.

Willow Black is the sister we have been missing. She has been in a mental health facility because she sees visions anytime she gets around water. I was kind of hoping that there would be some sort of mystery involved in finding her, but that's not how the author decided to play things out.

The book states that the mental health facility was built using the Kirkbride Plan in the 19th century. It was easy for me to conjure up a picture of the building in my head because I recently returned from a trip to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, WV. It was also a Kirkbride asylum.

I wasn't feeling the connection between Willow and Sebastian. She has been having visions of him her entire life. She says they are fated to be together, but it seems to me they should still take the time to fall in love, or maybe I just have a hard time believing in insta-love.

My favorite part was the epilogue. The scene was beautiful. Although I didn't get into these books as much as I thought I would, they are still some good reads. I would recommend this if you like paranormal romance.

Outside Reading

There is nothing like taking a good book outside to read. I live in the country so I have the fresh air, but my yard isn't big enough. I would love to have a place like this!
